The Northern New York Community Foundation is excited to offer another year of the “Community Spirit Youth Giving Challenge!”
Students currently attending 7th or 8th grade in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties are eligible to compete for a total of $10,000 in grant awards that the students, themselves, will recommend. Funding for the program is being provided by the Community Foundation and Community Bank, N.A.
The initiative strives to help youth explore their concept of “community” and provide funding to local charitable organizations that exemplify and support what they feel makes their community a great place to live. Students must answer questions in writing, using an official entry form. The deadline to submit an entry is November 19, 2018.
Entries will be reviewed by a committee and there will be multiple winners at various grant levels based on the number of entries received. Last year, 23 winning entries were selected with grants being awarded to 19 area organizations totaling $10,000 in support. The top grant was a $1,000 award to support Meals on Wheels of Greater Watertown. Eligible recipient organizations must be 501(c)(3) organizations located within Jefferson, Lewis or St. Lawrence County.
Winners will be announced before the end of the year. Winning students will present their grants and make visits to their chosen organizations.
