Dollars
For Scholars
The Northern
New York Community Foundation is affiliated with Scholarship America's
Dollars for Scholars program. Community Foundation scholarship
recipients who attend colleges participating in the matching grant
program may be eligible for additional funding from their college.
Matching
Partners are colleges that agree to match scholarship awards
coming to their campus from Dollars for
Scholars chapters; the amount matched per student for each academic
year is set by the college. The college also agrees that matching
funds represent resources dedicated for this purpose and will not
be used to replace previously awarded institutional grants.
Matching
award policies vary between colleges in the amount of the match
per award and the total dollars budgeted
each year for matches. In some cases, the matching funds are
available on a
first-come, first-served basis. Many participating schools require
the student to demonstrate financial need or meet other qualifications
to
be eligible for the match. For policies of particular colleges,
contact their Financial Aid office.
Each year after
scholarships are awarded, the Community Foundation, at the request
of the student,
completes
Matching Award Request Forms for those attending Matching Partner
colleges. The current list of Matching Partners is included
with Foundation scholarship award letters. Please note that scholarship
checks for Dollars for Scholars students are made payable to
and mailed directly to the college.
For more information
on the Dollars for Scholars program, see the Scholarship
America web site.
Their annual Collegiate Partners Directory is available on
the site
and includes
a list of Matching Partners which is updated each year. |
