in Rodman in 1844, William P Herring went on to make his mark as
a successful businessman in Northern New York. His will called
for the establishment of a college in Watertown. Lacking
sufficient funds for an actual college, the courts decided to establish
the Herring College Trust, the income from which is given to the
Foundation. Each year the Foundation awards Herring Scholarships
to students studying engineering, mathematics and related fields.
William Herring cared deeply for his community...You too can count
on the Northern New York Community Foundation to turn caring into commitment. We
make it easy to be a philanthropist now and for generations to come.
