Scholarship Requirements and Criteria

Jefferson and Lewis County Students

Freshman Applicants:
High School Seniors for the Freshman Year

Selection Criteria
Selection is based on Scholarship America criteria.

  • Regents scores, SAT or ACT scores, rank in class, applicant appraisals, personal data and the essay are combined by computer to produce a numerical ranking for each freshman scholarship program.
  • Scholarship selections are made on the basis of this ranking.
  • Interviews may be required when there is no appreciable difference in scores.
  • Students who will be attending technical schools are eligible to apply.
  • Amount of award is based on unmet financial need as determined by your college.
  • Students selected for a freshman scholarship who have no unmet financial need will receive a one-time merit award of $500.

Junior Applicants: College Sophomores for the Junior Year

  • Must have a 3.00 GPA or better to apply (Transcript required).
  • Selection will be based on GPA, personal data, applicant appraisal and essay.
  • Interviews may be required.
  • Amount of award is based on unmet financial need as determined by your college.
  • Students selected for a junior scholarship who have no unmet financial need will receive a one-time merit award of $500.

Non-Traditional Students: For any year in college or technical school

  • High school or college transcripts will be required.
  • Interviews will be required.
  • Selection will be based on educational objectives, ability to meet them and financial need.
  • Amount of award is based on financial need.

All of the above applicants must be full time undergraduate students (12 credits per semester) and residents of Jefferson or Lewis Counties.

North Pleasant Street, Watertown Scholarship Applicants:

  • The applicant must currently reside on North Pleasant Street, Watertown and the applicant's family must have resided on North Pleasant Street for at least five years.
  • Applicants can be entering any year of full-time undergraduate study (12 credits per semester).

St. Lawrence County Applicants: High School Seniors for the Freshman Year

  • Applicants must be students in the following school districts:
    Canton, Clifton-Fine, Colton-Pierrepont, Edwards-Knox, Gouverneur, Hammond, Harrisville, Hermon-DeKalb, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Morristown, Ogdensburg, Potsdam.
  • Applications will be accepted from high school seniors who will be full-time college freshmen (12 credits per semester).
  • Students who will be attending technical schools are eligible to apply.
  • Selection is based on academic criteria and personal data as listed above.
  • Amount of one-year award (up to $2,000) is based on unmet financial need as determined by your college.
  • Students selected for a freshman scholarship who have no unmet financial need will receive a one-time merit award of $500.

Rotary Purple Heart Scholarship Applicants:

  • Applicants (or their dependents - spouse or child) must provide documentation of a Purple Heart Award.
  • Applicants must be residents of Jefferson, Lewis or St. Lawrence County.
  • Applicants can be entering any year of full-time undergraduate study (12 credits per semester).
